What Flew Over Western Washington State On Friday Night, May 22?

On the evening of Friday May 22, a large glowing object(s) flew at low altitudes over Washington state. There were at least 4 postings about these sightings to MUFON.com in the days that followed, and they may concern the same object.

All 4 reports refer to the evening of May 22, 2009.

Bold text – My emphasis,  {My clarifications}.

From southwest Washington, north of Portland, Oregon:

“I stepped outside of the restaurant where I had just eaten dinner and looked up into the sky. At about 40 degress above the western horizon I saw a brilliant white light. . . . It was moving in a west to east direction. . . . My friend suggested that maybe it was the space station, or a satellite, both of which I have seen through binoculars in the past. This object was far, far, too large to be either of those. It appeared to be about equal to 1/3 the diameter of a U.S. dime held at arm's length. It traveled silently from about 40 or 50 degrees above the west horizon, to about 50-60 degrees above the eastern horizon, and then, it instantly disappeared!” The observer stated they thought they saw a brownish, thin ‘trail’ after the light went off.

“I also would mention, that during the 2-3 minutes of this observation, there were aircraft approaching the nearby Portland International Airport and in holding patters with external lights and landing lights on. This object was clearly NOT an approaching nor a landing aircraft.”

From a suburb east of Seattle:

This observer was in his backyard with a friend, who alerted him of an object, at what he thought was about 10:15 PM:

“I turned around (facing west towards lake washington) and a very bright oval/sphere object about the size of a dime in the sky moved from behind and a above a row of trees about 100 to 125 yards from our position. . . . It stayed in plain sight above the tree line . . .”.

The observer stated he felt the object’s altitude was very low.

“it moved west to east in a slow up and down undulating motion . . .. As i took up another clear view it suddenly dimmed itself out into an ever smaller ring that went from the brightest white light i have ever seen to an orangish brown ring the size of what i can only describe as a needle point. . . . I have never seen something so big , so low and SO QUIET.”

From an unknown Washington state location:

“Myself and four of my friends were walking out to our cars when I looked up in the sky to the west and saw a VERY BRIGHT light moving. It had no flashing lights like an airplane would have an the light coming from it was too bright to be any aircraft that I know of. It was heading in a West to East direction. It had to be rather large judging from the size of the lighted area. We were able to see it all the way until it started to make a very sharp turn and then the light all the sudden went off. This was NO meteor, no aircraft that any of us were familiar with, it made no noise at all. Within seconds there was two other airplanes right in the area where this light had disappeared. This was definitely a craft of some sorts . . .”.

This observer also mentioned a previous report of a similar object.

Finally, a report from Lewis County, which is on I-5 in western Washington, about halfway between Seattle and Portland, OR:

“On May 22, 2009 at 10:38 PM in Centralia, WA we saw a very bright oval object appear on our west horizon line, traveling W-E at a steady pace at what appeared to be approximately 3000 to 4000 feet in the air. It passed our home making no sound at all and then it appeared to slow down as it approchaed a hill, then faded (started dimming) to a pale yellow then extinguished, as if one was blowing out a candel. This entire event took place in five minutes. We looked at it through very high powered binnoculars and looked for strobbing lights, red lights, a comet tail, fire, anything to explain that it was an aircraft, sattalite, meteor, etc.....it had none of these discriptives. It was nothing like we have seen before.”

“When we noticed the object we were in our back yard, putting away our telescope when we noticed the object thinking it was a very low flying plane. I ran for the binnoculars and was able to capture it in the view finder. No distinguishable shape other than the oval light. No blinking lights, no colored lights and no sound. We were trying to figure out what it was, and then it simply disappeared before our eyes, prior to the hill it was approaching. . . .  Then we saw it "blow out" and couldn't see the object any further.”

In several years of reading just about every report submitted to MUFON.com, it is unusual to have 4 detailed reports from the same time frame describing such a similar object.

I have seen the International Space Station traverse the sky. The ISS went overhead through a clear night at about a 75 degree angle. It was a speck of light just barely visible to the naked eye.

Earlier in the day of May 22, 2009, from the kitchen of a home overlooking the capitol city of Brazil:

A huge gray cigar shap object over Sobradinho, DF {Federal District}’

“I was having my breakfast. . . .  The sky was clean without clouds. The sun was shinning. Suddenly a bright flash caught my attention. I looked outside and saw a huge, I mean, very huge, cigar shape object. It was gray, a polish gray, shinny. I could estimate the size because the TV tower that is 23 km {14 miles} distant from me and it has 35m {118 feet} high. The object, I calculate, had aprox. 30m long. It was hovering for 10 minutes until in a amazing speed shhot off to the sky!”

“I know that at least 5 more people saw it because I could see those people looking to the sky.”

It is a common reaction to note that others also witnessed an unexplainable sighting. When I saw my first UFO, a low-flying, roaring, round ‘fireball’, at least 10 feet in diameter, in a slow, level flight in the middle of a summer afternoon, my first thought, after it passed overhead, was “at least those people I hear talking at the golf course next door will see it too!”

Designed But Not Maybe The Way They Think

The above letter appeared in the Augusta GA Chronicle on Feb. 20, 2009.

The following was my response, which I sent the next day as an e-mail to the Augusta Chronicle:

Winter Wren Cardinal Seed
Ben Stein Good History But Republican
Dragonfly Not Soup Bone

Spring From Outline Keen
They Breed Us For What Purpose
Added 223 Genes

My two Haiku were not published by the Augusta Chronicle newspaper.

The two sculls above illustrate the deepening mystery of Human Development.
The skull on the left is from a full-sized 'Hobbit', discovered a few years ago in Indonesia. The one on the right is a modern human skull.

The 'Hobbits' bones seem to be related to humanids that left fossilized remains in Africa, where there lived about 1.5 million years ago. But the 'Hobbits' lived on an Indonesian island as recently as 8,000 years ago. As pointed out by the recent 'NOVA' TV documentary, 'Alien On Earth', the discovery of the 'Hobbits' has completely blown up science's understanding of human evolution.

Scientists are back at square one. In their previously comfortable rigid orthodoxy.

By the way, Bigfoot exists. I saw one. Young guy ran right in front of my car, on a lonely South Carolina road, in 1983.

The following is based on an article which appeared in Filer's Files 2008 #28:

When scientists began deciphering the human genome, they anticipated to find some 100,000 - 140,000 genes. But they found only some 30,000. About double the 13,601 genes of a fruit fly and maybe fifty percent more than the roundworm's 19,098.

"There is hardly any uniqueness to the human genes. They are comparative to 99 percent of the chimpanzees, and 70 percent of the mouse. Human genes, with the same functions, were found to be identical to genes of other vertebrates, as well as invertebrates, plants, fungi, even yeast. The findings not only confirmed that there was one source of DNA for all life on Earth. Some organisms are more complex, genetically, than simpler ones, adopting at each stage the genes of a lower life form to create a more complex higher life form - culminating with Homo sapiens. A designer or creator appears to have taken the simple DNA, and added more complex DNA forming each life form. Each species, dog, cat, horse, monkey, can be developed by using these building blocks of life."

The "head-scratching discovery by the public {gene-mapping} consortium," as Science magazine put it, was that the human genome contains 223 genes that do not have the required predecessors on the genomic evolutionary tree. How did Man acquire such a bunch of enigmatic genes? In the evolutionary progression from bacteria to invertebrates to vertebrates and finally modern humans, these 223 genes are completely missing in the invertebrate phase.

Scientists explain the presence of these 223 genes in the human genome by a "rather recent probable horizontal transfer from bacteria."

"In other words: At a relatively recent time as Evolution goes, modern humans acquired an extra 223 genes not through gradual evolution, not vertically on the Tree of Life, but horizontally, as a sideways insertion of genetic material from bacteria."

"An immense difference now, at first glance it would seem that 223 genes is no big deal. In fact, while every single gene makes a great difference to every individual, 223 genes make an immense difference to a species such as ours. The difference between one individual person and another amounts to about one "letter" in a thousand in the DNA "alphabet." The difference between Man and Chimpanzee is less than one percent as genes go; and one percent of 30,000 genes is 300. So, 223 genes is more than two thirds of the difference between me, you and a chimpanzee!"

"An analysis of the functions of these {223} genes through the proteins that they spell out, conducted by the Public {human genome} Consortium team and published in the journal Nature, shows that they include not only proteins involved in important physiological but also psychiatric functions. Moreover, they are responsible for important neurological enzymes that stem only from the mitochondrial portion of the DNA - the so-called 'Eve' DNA that humankind inherited only through the mother-line, all the way back to a single 'Eve'."

"It is a very questionable theory, that complex genes, that gave immense human advantage, was obtained by us --"rather recently"-- through the courtesy of infecting bacteria? "It is a jump that does not follow current evolutionary theories," said Steven Scherer, director of mapping of the Human Genome Sequencing Center, Baylor College of Medicine. "We did not identify a strongly preferred bacterial source for the putative horizontally transferred genes," states the report in Nature."

"Francis Crick, the discoverer of DNA, although an atheist, published a book which subscribed to the theory of intelligent design, that our universe was not simply the result of a series of chemical accidents. He states, "A highly advanced civilization became threatened so they devised a way to pass on their existence. They genetically-modified their DNA and sent it out from their planet on bacteria or meteorites with the hope that it would collide with another planet. It did, and that's why we're here."

Or, they built the pyramids and own mankind. We may be the seventh or eighth go-round for them. Waiting for 'The Rapture'.

Thank you Filer's Files. The new fossil released this week may be a distant human uncle. But as Major Filer's work pointed out last summer:

We don't know one-millionth of 1% about anything.

'Night Lights' And Real Craft Over Augusta, Georgia

There is progress to report! A local TV station in Augusta, GA produced a report about UFO sightings that was serious and objective.

The report was not hyped too much, but it was mentioned on air the weekend before it was aired. On the CBS affiliate’s web site, the 2-part story is labeled ‘News 12 Special Assignment: "Night Lights"’. The reporter is Richard Rogers, who has been a reporter and news anchor on Augusta TV for many years.

The report aired after the weather report, at about 11:15 PM on Monday, May 4, 2009. It is viewable online at http://www.wrdw.com/home/headlines/44338542.html

The report focuses on the sighting of 5 orbs, by 2 ex-military 20-somethings. Here are some excerpts from the report, used under the Fair Use doctrine, for Educational purposes:

Augusta, GA

” . . . on a busy stretch of Wrightsboro road between the mall and Daniel Field.

"One sphere, 2 spheres, 3,4,5," . . .

“The lights looked to be a few miles away just above the treetops. Red glowing orbs. Ten seconds later they disappeared.”

"They were gone, then another 30 degrees over in the sky there were two more of them," . . ." And that process repeated itself again and they went out and they were gone."

"And it stayed lit maybe 6,7,8, seconds and then it blinked out. Then all the sudden it was over here but there was only 2 of 'em. And to travel that distance that fast within literally a second or 2. No, nothing I've ever seen could do it."”

“Way too big” to be an airplane. “Oddly strange and large in size.”

Two separate sightings, about a week apart. However, no date or other information about the time of the sightings was given. Also, I was unable to ascertain the direction of the lights relative to the main thoroughfare mentioned.

A poll conducted in 2008 Scripps Howard News Service and Ohio University was mentioned. It showed only 1/3 of respondents believe aliens have visited Earth.

“So, what did they see? Casey will only say "Lights."
That's about as far as he's willing to go with it.”

“Whatever it was- they did some research and found the same reports have been documented- for years. Right here in our night sky.
Casey says, "There have been state troopers that have seen it, there have been military that have seen it."”

The reporter stated there are 32,000 videos on You Tube under the search term ‘2008 UFO sightings’. Occurrences with NASA’s Space Shuttle were included.

A local astronomer from across the Savannah River was consulted for the story. This is in fact the same astronomer mentioned in the newspaper article highlighted in my March 2 posting, about the ‘Bolide’ that was reported in the Augusta newspaper late last year. This is interesting that he would appear in this TV news report. Here is part of the dialogue:

(News 12): "So have you ever seen anything you couldn't explain?"

Astronomer: "I have. I know when I was younger, I saw some kind of a light that appeared to rise up, hover for a while and then take off quickly in one direction."

(News 12 ): “So what would capture your attention in a sighting?"

Astronomer: "Something that appeared to be moving in one direction in the sky and suddenly appear to move in another direction. I've heard a number of reports of those kinds of things and they're usually the ones that are unexplainable."

The report returned to the sighting on Wrightsboro Road.

“News 12 got an e-mail from a local businessman who saw the lights too. He even diagrammed the cluster for us . . .. His diagram matches Kenny and Casey's description very closely.”

The astronomer mentions how the Hubble Space Telescope was aimed at “kind of an empty area” of the sky, the size of a postage stamp at arms length, for 10 days. Some 1,500 galaxies were revealed. That was in 1995. Some of the galaxies were 10 billion light-years away.

A link was provided to a beautiful short video on the Hubble Deep Field program: http://hubblesite.org/hubble_discoveries/hubble_deep_field/

“It may be enough to make you wonder, how could we be ---- alone?”

The report brought a comment the next day from someone who had a sighting in the Spring of 1994, a little south of Wrightsboro Road. “Same red lights”. At least a mile in diameter, “and the red lights were just a blinking going around and round in a circle just above the tree tops, slowly moving down gordon hwy. Till they dissappeared about 15 minutes later.”

Congratulations to WRDW TV for a strong report. To read the entire transcript, and watch both videos, go to www.wrdw.com

If a local news station has run a similar report recently in your area, I sure would like to know about. This may be part of something larger.

On March 18, 2009, I recorded (that is, copied from the MUFON ‘Last 20 Reports’ page), the following report. It was dated as occurring on March 17, 2009, “around 8 PM”. What follows is the entire report, unedited, as it was reported to MUFON online. If I didn’t live across the river in SC, I might have ignored this report.

I did not witness this ‘event’.

“ Me and 2 of my friends were sitting on a bench in front of my tattoo shop on Wrightsboro Rd having a conversation about RC cars. One of my friends also works for me here at the shop. Last week he told a few of us at the shop that he had seen some orange/yellow lights in the sky last Tuesday night. We laughed it off as a plane or shooting star. As we were talking tonight he yelled out "Look! Look in the sky over there, there it is, the lights I saw last week"! Me and my other friend looked up at the sky to find the "Lights". It took 1-2 seconds and we saw them. 5 clustered orange/yellowish lights were lite up for 5-7 seconds. Then thy dimmed out, not fast but not slow. At first I thought it was fireworks but they didn't dim out like fireworks do nor were they falling. They stayed in the same spot for around 8-10 seconds total. About 10 seconds after they were gone they appeared again in the sky but a lot father away than first time? They were only lit for a few seconds that time. We tried to explain it to each other and figure out what it was but can not come to a logical explanation as to what it could have been. My friend called the news station the first time it happened and was told they would look into it. Nothing came of it. I told him to call them again and tell them we all saw the lights tonight. They told him that they had several other calls about the same lights we saw tonight and that they would be coming to interview us tomorrow. Both times that the lights were seen were on Tuesdays at or around 8pm. The light looked like they were around 10-15 miles away from us. “

Was there a discrepancy in the perceived distance of ‘the lights’?

Another event occurred in the skies west of Augusta on December 17, 2008. There were 3 separate reports filed with MUFON. The first, filed the next day, had the title “Husband and I seen 3 amber lights one larger hovering, while we were in our outdoor spa, then I seen later very long line of star like planes”.

About the ‘star like planes’, “Then there appeared other objects in the sky that resembled Flickering stars flying darting in the sky, at times as many as 6 or 7 appeared darting, dont know where they came from.”

“I stayed to witness more star-like things racing across the sky. Then I heard coming from the direction of our airport what sounded like a large airplane, I looked in the diredtion of the noise and seen what resembled a row of stars flickering on and off following one another, It seemed to go on for a minute or two. It sounded like all the flickerings made one NOISE.”

The husband later told her the 1 large and 2 smaller hovering lights he saw were red.

The second report, filed on Dec. 19, was entitled “short duration amber colored lights”. Below follows the entire report, unedited, as it was reported to MUFON online.

“ at approx 6;37pm on Wednesday night I pulled into a filling station and began pumping fuel into my car. I noticed several peculiar looking amber lights in the southern sky about 30 degrees above the horizon. That placed the lights above the Fort Gordon Military Reservation.
The lights were obvious even through a barren tree and power lines partiall obscured the field of vision. At first I thought the lights may have been fireworks or perhaps flares but the color of the lights were unusually pure color and did not "flicker" as do illumination or anti-missile flares.
The first lights exhibited short-range movenment and fadded away within 4 to 5 seconds, They all dissappeared within a second of each other.
Then about 4 seconds later another 3 lights appeared (also Amber in color) equadistant from each other in a horizontal plane but exhibited variable relative motion so I do not think they were connected to each other. Then a fourth amber light appeared and crossed in front of the other three in a left to right motion. There may have been a slight "trail" behind this light. After approx 5 seconds each light fadded away, also within 1 or 2 seconds of each other.
I suspect that these lights were in fact conventional objects in that they appeared to be incandescent in nature, even though they were of a very pure color with no sparks. It is entirely conveivable it was a re-entry of a satellite viewed as it approached the observer. “

I don’t get the final sentence. It doesn’t make sense.

The third report, submitted on Christmas Day 2008, was also dated as occurring on Dec. 17. The report appears below in its entirety unaltered from the original submission to MUFON:

“ At 6:41 i was in my car with my girlfriend leaving Augesta tec when we both saw four amber light. The lights appered all at the same time and they got brighter and moved apart from each other and then disappered. Then the four lights appered agian and did the same thing agian but in a different part of the ski. I was so shocked i almost crashed so i pulled over and called the sherrif's dept. There was no sound that i could hear “

This simple bitmap at the top of this post was also submitted with this report.

Filers Files noticed these reports as well. Part of their weekly report:
“A MUFON-GA member near Augusta also observed several star-like amber lights in the southern sky over Fort Gordon the same night. These lights demonstrated short range movements then faded away in 4-5 seconds. The witness had the impression that it may have been conventional objects.”

Fort Gordon was in the news in the last few months as a location where surveillance of international telephone calls made by US Service Members was conducted.

Hey Senor, who needs a stinking badge? Or some warrant?

Of course, most sightings are not reported anywhere. Here are some more defined occurrances from the Augusta side of the Savannah River:

Two triangular objects just above the tree line.

This just happen!

My son & I walked outside from our house & instantly noticed two bright white light formations just above the tree line to the east of our home. My son went to the garage bonus room & brought out his girlfriend to witness what we were seeing. The objects were clearly triangular in shape, made no noise at all, & no movement. I walked inside to retrive my cell phone as to take a picture in which I did but they look like faint white lights at best.

I called my daughter whom was upstairs yet before she could make it out side we watched these objects rise about a 1/2 mile straight up & then shoot of to the right at a speed that I can only explain as immpossible. What was this?

Flasing triangular lights in rural Georgia

On I-20W I was driving heading towards Atlanta. I had just stopped in Augusta to get gas at least 15 minutes before. I saw deer and put on my high beams in order to spot them in the road. After driving 15 minutes I saw a triangular shape on the opposite side of the road facing me. It flashed its lights (which were under the aircraft) and then it was darkness for about 2 seconds. Then it flashed its lights again and I got a clearer look at it. The Aircraft was hovering over the tree on the opposite side and it seemed to standing still. The aircraft appeared to be very high tech and it made no noise as I passed. I didn't fear at all I just kept driving but I knew it was not from here.

On July 8, 2007, this report was filed about an event in Martinez, north of Augusta, at the Thurmond Dam on the Savannah River. It is complete.
Time and date of occurrence: June 20, 2002 11:20 PM

“ Was at Thurmond Lake with my girlfriend. It was night and we were sitting at the edge of water looking at the Corps of Engineers hydro electric dam. There are lots of lights on it there is a road on top of it too. We noticed a huge white light that hovered for about 20 minutes or so, and the whole time we kept talking trying to figure out what it could possibly be. Then it just took off so fast vertical and was gone in few seconds, my girlfriend instantly started crying and did so the whole way home. “

“Another I saw was in the same area of lake. Me and my brother and a friend were bowfishing as we have for many years, It was night time again. I had just shot a fish and was bent down by the water getting fish off my arrow, When I saw the whole lake light up and huge light reflection in the water. Then my brother and friend start screaming did you see that, they saw huge glowing light speeding fast overhead. “

Group of flashing rapidly moving lights

I have been seeing this for roughly a year. What happens is at certain times of the month several lights will appear, moving around the sky in unison and flash on and off while doing so. I have had several other people see it with me at times and they all agree with me that it seems like it is being flown in such a manor, definatly not stars or weather balloons or aircraft ( there are several airports in this area including one that has some military craft at it). I finally decided to file this in the hopes some else around here is seeing it.

One disc streaks in contacts another disc, both speed off.

Was driving down Gordon Hwy. going home, had just got off work. I spotted a disc moving very slowly across the sky. Then out of no where, I saw a bright green streak heading towards the disc. I then realized the green streak was another disc. The green glow seem to spread out and vanish. The green disc then game to a dead stop and it seemed to send flashing signals to the first disc. They both moved in the same direction, then they just sped off in seperate directions, one looked like it was going straight up while the other disappeared off the horizon.

Unknow object hovering over Air Port in Augusta Ga., this was no aircraft such as a plane or helicopter etc!

Leaving for home while driving by Daniel Village Airport, notice a object hovering above the south end of the air port. Est. this object was approximately two to three hunderd foot above the airport, was able to see 3 color windows in the object. As I went to stop and position my car to get a better look at the object, it took off to the south-east rotation as it, seems as I stopped, It new someone was watching it! The sky behind this object was somewhat fogged, this may it hard to determined the distance away the object was, just guessing about 300 - 450 yards away! Windows were down in my car and no sound or any thing was heard as the object left the air port and the area!

Daytime metallic silver oval object in McDuffie County (Thomson) GA.
{Just NW of Ft. Gordon}

Traveling down the highway in the backseat I had this weird feeling and I looked out the window and my eyes went directly to this beautiful metallic silver oval object with no windows or anything on it, It was around the size of probably a small home and at the altitude of a lite aircraft, not far away at all really. It just seemed to be stuck in time not moving at all. I watched it intently almost as if I had no control... until it bolted into the only cloud in the bright blue sky not to return. The speed it traveled was unreal, more of a blur really and at a sharp downward angle. Amazingly it's speed seemed to be instantaneous. Example: like going 0 mph to lighting speed. No one else has ever mentioned seeing this object in the area or County, nor was it in the local town newspaper but it did indeed occur as clear as day.

(Object was located over the Belle Meade Country Club Golf Course right passed the local Airport . . .)

Summer of 68 around 11pm.The moons glow so bright and the stars filled the night sky.

My family and I lived on a farm. With many live stock and cattle. We'd been cleaning the cattle yard and pens.Raking and burning pinestraw and debree. It was getting really late ...

my dad knew it was past my brothers and my bedtime. But, chores had to be done.

He said shouldn't take much longer. We had started late and was late getting through.

When something so strange in the sky captured our eye. It shifted to side then up and down. As it got closer almost touching the tree tops. And the object as big ...

then a roof top to be. It was spining circular motion. Bright round lights that ...
seemed to be all around its ship.Beautiful sparkling gold ufo. It was like nothing on this earth. I had a calm feeling come over me. It slowly aired down above the fire. The cows and horses standing near by and my mother, father and brother ... were like frozen in time.

Nothing moved, nor made a sound.I looked on as the round door underneath this object.

Begin to open sliding over. It reached the fires heat and the door closed shut.

Lifting back up and over again. And back the direction it came.

My father said OMG Lord No ... kids we never saw that thing! Right mom? mom agreed with daddy. My dad looked at his wristwatch ... time had stopped for 25 mins. We went in the house and a good hour and 1.2 had gone by.

A few weeks later ... 2 strange men in business suits came to visit our house.

Dad said never mind what they wanted. Although daddy didn't know but, momma let my brother and I call the radio station that night and report the UFO.

I swear with all the life in me this story is REAL and as God as my witness.

Came from something other then earth. But,where?

Shape: Triangle
Duration:10 minutes
We saw a never explained dark large triangular object, hanging still and silently in the night sky over our backyard.

Three pre-teen boys and their older sister were the witnesses.

The boys tumbled into the house from playing, white as sheets, and the two younger prodded the oldest to talk to me the "big sister" babysitting for the evening. I listened impatiently as the oldest stuttered out that there was something HUGE up in the sky blocking the stars and it was a triangle and it wasn't high up but it wasn't low either and there were stars all around it and it WASN'T MAKING ANY NOISE and ended with, "we're scaaared!". (I'm not sure if I remember he noticed lights or not).

I laughed and said I would check it out and they pleaded with me not to, but I told them mom and dad wouldn't believe us unless I saw it, too.

I looked outside and up and it was exactly as he said. A big black triangular void with no noise and no movement and no emissions, yet stars all around it. I also noticed a complete absence of bugs, birds or pets making any noise and that's when I really creeped out and fear overcame my curiosity and I backed into the house slowly, keeping my eye on the unknown object.

It seemed like it was no more than a couple of hundred feet up which would mean I should be able to hear something!

My parents thought we made it all up of course and suggested it might be a weather balloon or experimental aircraft from Bush Field Airport or Fort Gordon Military Base. I never believed that.

When I saw the stealth bomber years later it reminded me of it, although this had what appeared to be equal angles (equilateral) but again, there was no noise, no movement, and no emissions. Just a big black triangular void that was definitely a solid object silently hanging in the air. I don't remember seeing lights, but my brothers might, I'm going to ask them when I get a chance. ”

“The last of the early memos I want to show you is from Robins Air Force Base in Macon, Georgia, dated July 9, 1951. It describes a ten minute aerial UFO encounter that took place in the early afternoon. The pilot, a first lieutenant, was flying an F-51 on a routine flight from Lawson AFB in Columbus, Georgia. Not far from Augusta, he encountered an object that was "flat on top and bottom and appearing from a front view to have rounded edges and slightly beveled." At one point the object dived while in front of the pilot’s view. When it did so, it appeared "completely round and spinning in a clockwise direction."
The amount of detail on this report is remarkable. It continues: "From front view as object dived observer noted small spots on the object ...Object did not appear to be aluminum. Only 1 object observed. Solar white. No vapor trails or exhaust or visible system of propulsion. Described as traveling at tremendous speed." The object eventually "disappeared under his plane."
Not only was this for an extended duration, but the pilot got to within 300 to 400 feet of the object. He estimated its size at about 10 to 15 feet in diameter. This object was moving very fast. According to the report, the pilot thought the object was moving at the speed of a jet. He felt a "disturbance in the air described as a bump when object passed under plane.... Pilot flew in combat in Europe for 12 months 1944-1945. Pilot considered by associates to be highly reliable, of mature judgement and a creditable observer."

Maine And The Unexplained

In mid-February 2009, a report was filed with MUFON about a remarkable encounter that was claimed to have occurred on a frozen lake in Maine.

It was entitled “Bright, dime sized yellow light followed us for 3 miles.
It then separated into 3 flying sets of lights. 1 was solid red and stationary and the other 2 were red/white blinking and circling us.”

The first three photos above were taken on the night of February 9, 2009. The two witnesses were on the north edge of Millinocket Lake, Maine. The object or objects they photographed were westward of them and their tracked all-terrain vehicle, “around 1/2 mile from us and 50 feet above the tree line”.

These photos were titled “alienencounter#” by the submitter. They are presented in sequence, but the time between shots is not known. In the first, using Adjust Levels in Photoshop, a darker area can just be made out below the white line. Camera movement may have been an element of this photo. It is presented with no alteration except the edges have been cropped.

The second photo has had Levels Adjusted in Photoshop, and cropped. The adjustment allows the ATV’s headlight illumination to be seen on the right, and the treeline and sky. It didn’t effect the bright line. The ‘copy’? of the bright line to the lower right of the photo is inexplicable.

The third photo has also had Levels Adjusted in Photoshop, to about the same degree as the second. The adjustment allows the ATV’s headlight illumination to be seen on the right, and its brake light glow on the left.

A very odd thing about these photos: “They look nothing like they did in person, though they are unusual. They are very colorful lines of light, and though the pictures were taken closely together, they all are different.”

The fourth photo is an example of the ATV the witnesses were using. Theirs may have had a larger bed in the rear, and they may have been pulling a trailer, as they were hauling firewood to their remote lakeside cabin. Only the first three photos were submitted to MUFON.

Here’s What Happened {my additions} bold text – all are my emphasis
I did not witness this event.

Between 9:00 and 9:30 PM, Feb. 9, the two witnesses were about in the middle of the lake, heading to the north. “The ATV we were in was traveling at a speed of about 15 miles per hour and about 2 miles across the lake I noticed a yellow light next to us {on their left, or west side} about 50 feet about the tree line. I first thought this was an odd star. Than I realized that it was in front of a mountain {the elevations to the southwest of Mt. Katahdin}. The light then shot a spot light down on the shoreline of the lake for roughly 2 seconds.”

“I alerted my brother and he then turned his head and watched the light as it followed right beside us the rest of the was across the lake. When we got directly in front of our camp {on the north bank of the lake}, yet still about 200 yards out on the frozen lake, we stopped the ATV and started taking pictures of the light. The first 2 pictures were taken with a flash and the rest (5 or 6) were taken in twilight mode. When we stopped, the light stopped and was around 1/2 mile from us and 50 feet above the tree line. The light slowly turned from yellow to orange. Then it slowly changed from one light to what appeared to be three lines of red light forming a triangle with a distinct black spot in the middle. We turned the ATV toward the light so that our head lights were pointing directly at it. We then shut the ATV off and watched it hoping that it would move or do something. We sat there for 10 minutes or so just watching it in complete darkness, and in retrospect, we should have taken more pictures, but it was soo cold (5-10 below zero) that it was unbearable to be out there without gloves on to operate the camera.”

“We pulled off the lake and the triangle was blocked from our view for no more than 7 or 8 minutes while we unloaded the wood. When we returned to the frozen lake, the light/triangle was gone and replaced by a smaller bright red light {Light 1}. The red light followed us as the other light had, across the lake {off to the west, now on their right as they traveled south} and we stopped in the middle of the lake when we noticed there were 2 red/white blinking lights coming from opposite directions toward our camp which was about 1 mile behind us. Both blinking lights disappeared behind trout mountain {nearby to the NW, see map}, and reappeared as they came over the the top of the mountain stopping directly over our camp.”

“Then the blinking lights went in different directions, one coming around us on the drivers side {Light 2, east side of lake} about a mile away and maybe 200 feet up. The other light {Light 3} went directly to the red light {Light 1, to the west} which hadn't moved since we stopped. The red light {Light 1} was about 3/4 - 1 mile on the passenger side about 50 feet above the tree line. Then the blinking light got near the red light, the blinking light {Light 3} circled the red light {Light 1} for about 20 seconds and then slowly made its way behind us. I said to my brother that I felt that they were surrounding us and I wanted to go.”

“He started forward as fast as the ATV would go when all the dash lights on the ATV came on and the ATV's engine shut off. For the record, this is a brand new 2009 Atv with 200 miles on it. He tried to start it and the key did nothing. We got out and lifted the hood to see if we could see any issues. Everything looked fine with the ATV. At this point all 3 lights were a little closer than before. We climbed back in the ATV and the engine started right up. The red/white light directly behind us {Light 3} sped up and started coming around us on the passenger {west} side toward the solid red light {Light 1}. When the red/white blinking light got to the solid red light, the solid red light disappeared.”

The 2 blinking red/white lights were now on either side of us and the one on the passenger side {Light 3} started coming directly at us. It moved at about 10-15 miles an hour at an altitude of about 200 feet directly over us and I noticed it left a very small trail behind us though it wasn't like one from a jet. It was more like steam from the difference in temp and whatever the light was. None of the lights made any noise. At this point the other light {Light 1} followed the light that us passed over us and they slowly traveled away from us and out of sight. We continued the rest of the way back to our truck, and confirmed that that experience indeed happened.”

The statement about the photos not looking like the objects “in person” ended the submitted report.

If this is not a hoax, then this was a very interesting series of events.

A Summary Of These Events

A low yellow light moves for 2 to 3 miles on your left, then forms a red triangle of lights. It is replaced by a smaller bright red light that follows you back for a mile or 2. Then, two red blinking lights arriving “from opposite directions” maneuver in an intelligent way, using the nearby topography, and one moves to your left, the other moves to the non-blinking light on your right, and repeatedly circles it! Then it slowly moves to a position behind you.

Meanwhile, your ATV quits running. You are 2 to 4 miles from your automobile parked at the paved road. And left, back, and right lights in the air all seem to ‘close in’ on you. But just as strange, you can now restart your ATV.

Then the light behind you moves to the light on the right. The right light disappears, and the moving light then moves east, directly over your position. It leaves a ‘steam trail’, joins with the light on your left, and they then both fly away.

There was no noise reported from these lights.

Millinocket Lake

I used Google Maps Satellite View to search the banks of Millinocket Lake. The southwest bank, and a little to the east, around Black Cat Mountain, are well developed. But the east and west banks are very sparsely developed. The north bank has only a handful of cabin sites. And winter inhabitants of any lakeside lodgings here are very, very few.

To reach the area north of the lake, in February, requires following a maze of snow-covered dirt roads. Crossing the frozen lake on a tracked ATV (the tracks spread weight loads much more evenly than wheels, and have better traction in ice and snow) would be much faster and safer than travelling overland.

This report submitted to MUFON begins “My brother and I were hauling fire wood across Millinocket Lake to our remote cabin on the back side of the Lake. We hauled a total of six trips in a side by side ATV with tracks on it. We started hauling wood at around 1 PM and each trip averaged 90 minutes round trip from our truck full of wood in the Black Cat parking lot {warm weather boat landing}, cross the lake (5-6 miles), unload the ATV and return back to the truck for more wood.”

“It got dark around 6 PM and the sky was clear and the moon was large and bright. Millinocket Lake sits in the shadow of Mount Katahdin (the tallest point in Maine) and I recall that the moon lit the mountain brighter than any night I had seen in the past. We started from the parking lot with our final load of wood about 9 PM. It was a cold clear night . . . “.

Three statements that the night sky was unusually clear. The moon was full that night, or the next, February 10.

When they stopped the first time, they were 200 yards south of their camp, or cabin, and took the photographs. Then “The light slowly turned from yellow to orange. Then it slowly changed from one light to what appeared to be three lines of red light forming a triangle with a distinct black spot in the middle.” They shined the ATV’s headlights on these lights. Then they turned off their ATV and sat in the “total darkness” for 10 minutes or so. Apparently, the lights did not “move or do something”.

At this time the two witnesses became concerned. “My brother and I decided to continue in the camp {cabin} and unload our firewood so we could retreat at a faster speed if needed.”

If I was out on that lake at 10 PM or later and a blinking light came over my little ATV after it had suddenly quit, then started working again, and I was 2 to 4 miles from my car, in those Below 0 Temperatures, I would have been really concerned.

With all the misspellings, and the photos, why no more statements of concern? If MUFON has investigated this case, # 15455, I am definitely interested in their findings.

This MUFON report was included in Filers Files #8 2009 02-18 titled
Maine – Moving Lights. A synopsis of the report was included there.

Here is a report submitted to MUFON from Western Maine, far from
Mt. Katahdin, in early January, 2009 :

January 3, 2009 “hovering and moving in NW sky right now, been watching for 30+ minutes”

“At first it appeared to be a star in the distance rapdily flashing white and trailing what looked like 2 orange tentacles of light. I watched it for a few minutes and then saw it move and thought, what the heck is that. It would move occasionally in rounded sweeping movements and I saw it move in a 90 degree movement downward and to a sudden stop. The best description I can give is that with the naked eye it moves alot like a kite would up up the sky. I took a couple pictures but it was too dark and the object is too distant. It appears like it is up over Quebec somewhere” {due north}.

“When I got my binoculars to look at it I was astonished. At many points it looks like a 2 disc craft with a central core connecting the two discs, mostly green halo surround the entire craft and rapidly flashing white light around the top disc with random bright reds flashing in the white area, on the bottom disc it is mostly orange and green lights, no red flashing in this area.”

“When it moves (watching with binoculars) it spins rapidly almost like looking at a laser pointer being moved around a white screen. Looping and spinning almost like my hands were shaking. So I stabilized the binocs and sure enough, it was not me. It rapidly circles when it moves then suddenly stops.”

If true, it sounds like the photographs from mid-February taken on Millinocket Lake, Maine.

2008-04-17 MaineA large triangular craft (later appeared to be diamond shape) flying very slowly over my house “

“I was in my kitchen when I noticed two very bright lights outside the window (similar to vehicle headlights) above the tree line. I immediately went outside and watched for approximately seven minutes as the craft slowly made its way over my house. At times, it was moving erratically (side to side) which told me I was not seeing an airplane. Also, it emitted a strange, high pitched sound. It's difficult to explain what it sounded like but it was unlike the sound of any aircraft I've heard flying overhead."

"While the craft was over me (approximately 200-300 feet in the air), I noticed that it had a white light on each point of the triangle, a red light in the center and a red light in the rear. As it slowly moved away, it seemed to change shape from a triangle to a diamond (or a kite shape) with a white light on each point.”

“My wife and i were sitting down getting ready to watch the fireworks display in Bangor maine. probrably 15 or 20 min before they began, we saw a red object in the sky. i had my video camera and was able to take 19 seconds of footage with both distance and zoom footage. it was red and pulsating with concentric circles going from the center to the edges. it was silent and floated in the air. it was noticable for probrably 5 to 10 seconds before i got my video camera ready to film. at the end of the footage as i pan out there is a second object over the first object that i did not notice at first. they just seem to disapear, as if they take off at very high speed going directly away from our vantage point. i noticed the object because i thought it was the first firework. but it just continued hovering and did not burn out. it was visible for 25 to 30 seconds total. it stayed quite still throuout the sighting, not moving, just pulsating. i cannot explain what we saw.”

2004-06-01 Maine “We noticed a bright star movng in the sky across left and right and up and down”

“It was few years ago. I remember it was a warm night. It was about 10:30 p.m., the sky was very clear. The stars were shining diamonds against the cerulean blue sky. I can't remember exactly which summer month we were in, but we could not see the moon.”

“My father, Cousin Ryan, and I were sitting on the dock enjoying the night and the calm water of Little Sebago. My Dad and i were sitting on the bench of the dock, while my cousin was laying on the dock on his side.”

“We were sitting out their for about 10 or 15 minutes when i noticed a very unusual star. I thought it was a plane, but a plane in the sky does not look like a star, it was to far away. Then i thought OK maybe it is a satellite, but i have never seen anything like this before. It looked just like a star, but it moved over to the right, Up, Then down, up half way, to the left, and back up, then down half way and then just shoot across the sky, and covered great distance. That is when i was like OK im not crazy, i am seeing this, so i pointed it out to my cousin and my father.”

“We were just amazed by what we were seeing, trying to pinpoint what it was or what it could be. We watched for probably about 15 or 20 minutes, maybe longer. I believe whatever we were watching was about northwest, then my dad spots another star of the same behavior directly west. This one was only moving up, down, left, right, and not shooting across the sky, but i have to tell you this is only the TIP of the ice berg...”

“The bench on the dock is facing west. The left and front of the dock is facing open water, but to the right is the opening to the cove of the third lake of Little Sebago. At about 2 o clock of the dock across the cove is a [dam]. behind us next to the dock is a willow tree right at the opening of the cove. im not good with distance or height, but i would say the willow tree is about 35 feet tall.”

“After noticing the second moving star, we were just baffled and utterly confused. About 5 more minutes go by and then...I heard this weird noise. Out of my 21 years on this earth, I can NOT describe this sound easily. The sound was like a small fan i suppose. I said, "Do you hear that, that sound" about7 seconds later, i noticed that they could hear it too, and before they could say anything there it was! It was not above the willow tree but beside it, more over the water, but right beside us! This craft was moving about 3 m.p.h! just floating in the air! going beside us so slow. I felt mesmerized totally focused. The memory that i have of that night is clear as day, but that moment, that exact moment, the memory that i have is like a dream...”

“This thing, craft, ufo, whatever you have it was as big as a suv or van. It was rectangle. It was yellow with some wide black stripes across it diagonally. it had what looked like big black tires around it with bright lights in them.”

“We were hypnotized by it and just speechless like we had no control of our bodies. We just watched it floating in the air, continuing with the bends of the shore, and it was gone around the bend. Then all of a sudden we just relaxed and started to breath again. Once in a life time i tell you, but there is still more to go...”

“After regaining our sanity. we looked once more to the sky. Both stars were still there. Then we heard it. The military jets flying up into the sky. two of them. the star moving in the north west was doing the normal, but a little different this time. it was like every time it finished its routine, it powered up, But this time before it shot across the sky it got so bright i had to squint my eyes. Then it just took off. it was gone, just gone. the other one was gone as well. I wonder what the guys in the jets thought when they were forced to go back?”

“I am not crazy, but i tell you i will not beleive your story. All the other stories out there sound like crazy people stories. Well that is how i felt for a few years untill i met a guy named jason. His story was similar, but he was in nevada. his encounter was triangle. Then this year on the history channel there was this story with the same kind of sighting like mine.”

“I dont understand...those ufos looked like a star...They were in outerspace...they could see at least half of the world...Why would one come to visit us in windham maine of all places on little sebago lake, on our little dock? Why?”

Adding 'Bolides' To Weather Balloons and Swamp Gas

Two Large Parallel Luminescent Bar Shapes Visible For Nearly Ten Minutes In West-Central South Carolina

Photographed from Aiken, South Carolina (a few miles east of Augusta, Georgia) on November 15, 2008. Object(s) were visible from at least 5:45 PM to about 5:55 PM EST.

This report is derived from an article that ran in the November 23, 2008 (Sunday) edition of the Augusta (GA) Chronicle. It appeared in the newspaper’s ‘CAROLINA CHRONICLE’ section, delivered to an Aiken, SC address.

The article is headlined ‘Look, up
in the sky’, with a subhead ‘Aiken teen shoots photo of meteor’. The article is centered on the section’s front page and consists of a single column of about 8 inches of text to the left of a photo measuring 4 7/8” by 8 ¼”.

The lower 1 inch or so of the photograph showed a dark, uneven treeline. In the tan sky, about an inch from the top edge, are two bright orange-white parallel vertical lines, not starkly linear but more ‘cursive’. They are both surrounded on their mutual exteriors by a reddish glow. In the photograph they are both 3/8” long. They are angled from the photographer’s location, slightly to the left for the lower and slightly to the right for the upper.

In this area trees can grow very tall. Even a cursory glance at this photo indicates a large object(s) in the early evening sky. I have attached a full-sized cropping of the object(s) with this report.

The sighting occurred a few miles from the Savannah River Site, which produced 90% of the radioactive components used in the US’s nuclear weapons arsenal.

The Aiken-Augusta area is a very, very conservative area. Not in a neo-con way, but in a snake-handling way. That is, if it can’t be mentioned in the Baptist churches, it is taboo. So, this unexplainable daylight aerial event has been labeled “a bolide” by the admittedly Hard-Right-Wing Augusta Chronicle. I have read this newspaper since the 1960’s. It has improved considerably since 2001. Even though it often runs ‘Yesterday’s News’ (yes, literately, articles from the previous day, especially national and international news stories), this event did not rate even one drop of ink from the Aiken (SC) Standard daily newspaper. This event was reported by a witness in Aiken, SC.

What follows are excerpts from the Augusta Chronicle article of 2008-11-23, directly in quotations and summarizations not in quotes. The article is used under the Fair Use Doctrine, 100 words or less:

“AIKEN – About a week ago, an
Aiken teen witnessed a spectacular
event – an unidentified object blazing
toward Earth.
Thinking he might be seeing the space
shuttle Endeavor’s fuel tank burning up
in the atmosphere, a 17-year-old name
withheld snapped a few pictures as he
stood in the yard of his home.
“It was visible for a good while –
10 minutes or so – and finally disappeared
off into the distance,” the high school senior
said in an e-mail. “I was able to take
pictures and sent them to a friend . . .””

The friend, highly educated and knowledge-
able of astronomy, “told {the teen} that the object
in the pictures was most likely a bright meteor;
typically called a bolide. Bolides occur anytime a
large meteor hits Earth’s atmosphere.
“Most bolides last only a few seconds” he
said. “Some do last for up to five or six
minutes, but 10 minutes is very rare.””
He also said “It was exciting you were able
to see this. It is even more exciting that you were
able to capture it with a camera.”

“The bolide sighting was not the first in
the Aiken area.
{The astronomer} “said that about 2 or 3 years
ago, almost to the day, there was a sighting.”
“I remember it because it was a few days
before a meteor shower”, referring to the annual
Leonid meteor shower of mid-November.

The astronomer said meteor showers generally
are due to very fine-sized comet dust, and usually
don’t produce the brightest bolides. He speculated
that a few large comet fragments may be in the orbit
of Comet Tempel-Tuttle.

End of article.

The photo is somewhat similar to 2 photos submitted to Mufon about a week ago from Great Britain. It was Case #15454. Those photos were labeled by the submitter ‘Points of Light’ and ‘Bolides’.

Personally, for this object, or objects, to be as large as they obviously were, and remain airborne for 10 minutes, does not indicate space rocks. If they were part of a meteor, they would have to have hit the atmosphere at exactly the correct angle to 1) partially burn in the atmosphere, as it or they were clearly luminous, and 2) not fall to the surface within a 10 minute time span.

I don’t know what it or they were, but I doubt they were space rocks.

Something described as a bolide flew to the northwest over Charlotte, NC on the evening of January 24, 2007.

"A blue-green light with a white tail" was visible in an area of 100 miles around Charlotte from before 8:00 PM until after 8:30 PM that night. There were many eyewitnesses and many calls were made to various 911 dispatch desks. The object was described as a "slow-moving bluish glow", "a large, bright green ball", and "a bright blue-green ball with a white tail". A photo showed a white-ish area inside of a blueish-green glob at least as big as a thumb at arm's length. One family in the Charlotte suburbs described it as "a greenish-like light low in the sky. We thought a small plane or helicopter was going to crash."

Several witnesses thought it was a plane in trouble. Others noted that it was moving too slow to be a plane.

One eyewitness had time to go back inside his house, find his camera, and return to shoot photos of it from his backyard.

An astronomer from western North Carolina believed it was an unusually bright meteor that burned up some 30 miles high in the atmosphere somewhere over Charlotte. Well, if it was 30 miles high, it was a very, very large object.

The Charlotte Observer news organization reported that "Many witnesses say the light appeared to fizzle at the end and break into pieces, making it a special kind of fireball called a bolide. In the universe of meteors, they're A-List entertainers, known for their splashy finales."

From the trail of reported sightings, this object flew from the southeast over Charlotte and travelled northwest into rural areas. I guess we'll have to take the Observer's word that "many witnesses" saw the object "break into pieces" well after dark on a January night.

To me, this sighting is Unexplained. You have seen the fireball that fell in Austin, Texas, a couple of Sundays ago, on February 15, 2009? That flaming and smoking piece of rock was 'a bolide'. And it came down like a rock. It appears in the film for just a few seconds. What about the meteor fall recorded on the Alberta, Canada police camera a few months ago? It certainly lite up the sky. But it fell even quicker than the Austin fireball.

The object over Charlotte was visible for more than 30 minutes over an area of at least 200 miles across. It was reported to have been low and slow. To the best of my knowledge, no sounds were reported from the object. I doubt it was 'a bolide.'

UFO's and World War Two In The Pacific Ocean

USS Lamson DD-328

USS Clemson

On February 23, 2009 a report was submitted to MUFON about an event that occurred during World War Two. The witnesses were on board a Clemson Class Destroyer in the Bering Sea, west of Alaska. It was a very dark night, and they were manning guns on board of the fast, but small ship. In early 1943, the US had been at war with Japan for more than a year.

The reporting witness wrote that the ship was patrolling the Bering Sea "north of the Alaskan Peninsula", heading north. By "Alaskan Peninsula", I believe he meant the Aleutian Island Chain.

The witnesses were onboard DD244, the USS Williamson, commissioned in 1920. The date given for the event was March 1943. Kisku and Attu Islands in the Aleutian chain had been invaded and occupied by the Japanese in June 1942. The Williamson supported the US invasion and occupation of Attu in April and May 1943.

The witnesses were located on the "second deck (galley deck). . . My gun turret was above the deck house and there were no obstructions hindering my field of vision". They were on top of what we would refer to as 'the bridge', at the fore of the vessel, in front of the 4 stacks and the mast. As they were in contested waters, one can imagine that their powers of observation were certainly heightened at the time.

The full and complete report to MUFON follows below, with no changes.

I was aboard the USS Williamson (Destroyer) in early 1943 during WWII. The weather was clear with calm seas. The night was very black. At the time of the sighting, we were patrolling the Bearing Sea north of the Alaskan Peninsula, bearing north at about 20 knots.

I was on watch at the starboard 20mm gun, second deck (galley deck). It was around 2300. My gun turret was above the deck house and there were no obstructions hindering my field of vision, allowing me to have a clear 360 degree view of the sea around the ship. There were four of us together at the starboard gun (I can get crew names and captain’s name).

The attention of both port and starboard gun crews was drawn to a row of red lights off the port side, traveling parallel to and slightly forward of the bow. I did not see the lights when they first approached so do not know the direction from which they came, or if they came out of the sea. There were at least eight lights in a row, evenly spaced, canted at about 15 degrees to horizontal. I would estimate the lights were no more than 100 yards from the ship. The lights held their relative position to one another throughout the sighting, and appeared to be about 10 feet apart. I would say that the light closest to the water (the lights were canted diagonal to horizontal at approximately 15 degrees) appeared to be about 30 feet above the water.

I estimate that it would require a cantaloupe held at arms length to cover a single light. I could not see a structure associated with the lights as there was nothing but blackness between the lights. The lights were a very deep red and did not cast a beam. The lights moved parallel to our ship, holding their position relative to the ship throughout the entire sighting.

The lights continued to pace the ship as I watched. This continued for at least one hour. I was relieved from watch at 2400. When I went below the lights were still visible. I was too tired to stay on deck and went below to sleep. The next day, the midnight gun crew said that the captain turned the ship and “tried” to chase the lights. I don’t know the outcome of this maneuver. I don’t know what the circumstances were when the lights disappeared. But I do know that I have not seen anything like this before or since.

End Report

This report is worthy of further investigation. To see these lights as close and as long as they did, in such a remote and, for humans, dangerous region, is not easily explainable.

The Williamson had been chosen for several technical upgrades. On 15 May 1943, four torpedo wakes passed close to the ship, her closest call of the campaign and, indeed, her last brush with the Japanese in the Aleutian theater, according to Wikipedia.

Returning to San Diego in late spring of 1943, Williamson trained with submarines and then resumed escorting and plane-guarding for carriers on their shakedown cruises. In December 1943 Williamson was reclassified back to her original classification: DD-244. She survived the war, was decommissioned in November 1945 and was scrapped in 1948.

A truly amazing event was reported to have taken place during the opening of the 1942 Guadalcanal Campaign in the Pacific. The mass sighting was described in the August 1992 issue of the MUFON UFO Journal. Bob Gribble wrote about the incident that occurred on Tulagi Island in the South Pacific in August 1942. Tulagi in right smack in the middle of 'The Slot'. It forms an excellent protected harbor with the much larger Florida Island to the north. In 1942 it was the capitol of the Soloman Islands Protectorate.

From Wikipedia: "The Japanese occupied Tulagi on May 3, 1942, with the intention of setting up a seaplane base nearby. The ships in Tulagi harbor were raided by planes from
USS Yorktown the following day in a prelude to the Battle of the Coral Sea.
U.S. forces, primarily the 1st Marine Raiders, landed on August 7, 1942 and captured Tulagi as part of Operation Watchtower after a day of hard fighting. (The Marines were Raiders and also from the 2nd and 5th Marine Regiments.)
On 7 August 1942, 11,000 U.S. Marines landed on Guadalcanal and 3,000 U.S. Marines landed on Tulagi and nearby islands.[43] The Japanese troops on Tulagi and nearby islands were outnumbered and killed almost to the last man in the Battle of Tulagi and Gavutu-Tanambogo . . . Thus, began the Guadalcanal campaign.

After its capture by Naval and Marine forces, the island (Tulagi) hosted a fleet of PT boats for a year, including John F. Kennedy's PT-109 as well as other ancillary facilities."

According to Stephen J. Brickner of the First Marine Division, a flight of 150 disk-shaped vehicles flew over the troops who were expecting Japanese bombers. They were in

straight majestic lines of 10 to 12 craft each, one behind the other. The gleaming objects seemed to "wobble slightly, and every time they wobbled, they would shimmer brightly from the sun." The formation disappeared swiftly, leaving the excited witnesses open mouthed. Was this a demonstration by some alien folks to raise the awareness of the soldiers?

Another incident which was claimed to have been witnessed by US sailors during WWII occurred in Fiji on January 1943. About 25 witnesses to this absolutely remarkable event were on board the USS Sea Witch and the heavy cruiser USS Chicago (CA-29). The report was phoned in to the National UFO Reporting Center on August 11, 2004 by an eyewitness. NUFORC noted: "We consider him to be an exceptional witness, and highly reliable". The entire report follows, unchanged as it appears in the NUFORC database:

Crew contingents of 2 USN vessels see reconnaissance plane fly into something invisible to witnesses.

Telephoned Report: A gentleman who described himself as a former U. S. Army infantry officer during World War II, described an incident that he personally witnessed while aboard the USS “Sea Witch,” which was anchored in the Fiji Islands at the time.

He described that the accompanying navy vessel, the heavy cruiser, “Chicago,” was in the habit of launching a reconnaissance biplane most mornings, to perform surveillance of the surrounding area.

On the morning in question, the plane was lifted off the heavy cruiser, and was launched. As the plane was returning to land, the witness, together with approximately 25 other witnesses aboard his vessel, were stunned as the aircraft appeared to fly into an object, which was invisible to the witnesses, and crash in a ball of tangled metal. The pilot and observer were killed in the collision, and no recovery effort was mounted.

The witness reports that the aircraft, which had been at an altitude of approximately “200 yards,” he recounted, simply stopped flying in an instant, and fell vertically into the ocean as a ball of wreckage.

((NUFORC Note: We have spoken via telephone with this witness on a number of occasions, and we consider him to be an exceptional witness, and highly reliable. We would welcome additional reports from anyone who also may have been witness to this incident. PD))

"No recovery effort was mounted". They didn't even attempt to retrieve the seaplane? The US Army officer who made the report was probably part of the supply base which may have been the reason the warships were at Fiji. He would have been easily able to monitor the operations around the USS Chicago CA-29 after this event.

I have alerted 'The Black Vault' about this report, as there may be some references to this event buried in US Government releases.

Wikipedia's article on the USS Chicago CA-29 states: "Early in January 1943, Chicago departed San Francisco, action-bound once more. On 27 January, she sailed from Nouméa to escort a Guadalcanal convoy."

On the map above, Noumea, New Caledonia is from 700 to 900 miles southwest of the Fijian Islands. USS Chicago's top speed was 32 knots. She could have steamed from Fiji to Noumea at top speed in about 25 hours. She could have remained in Fijian waters for a week after the January 18th event and still been off Noumea on January 27.

On the night of January 29th, 1943 the USS Chicago CA-29 was engaged in the Battle of Rennell Island, where she was disabled by 2 torpedoes from Japanese aircraft. The next day she took 4 more torpedoes while under tow, and sank. She was replaced by the USS Chicago CA-136, which was put into service in early 1945.

On April 16, 2005 a report was filed with NUFORC from an eyewitness on a Navy ship that had notified his Officer Of The Day (O.D.) in April 1945 about anomalous aerial phenomena while in the Pacific Ocean south of Japan. The report follows as it appears in the NUFORC database:

Occurred : 4/1/1945 10:00 (Entered as : 04/01/1945 10:00)

April, 1945 I saw a disc over our ship, all day as we neared Okinawa.

I was a lookout on flying bridge of a minesweeper approaching Okinawa. We were concerned about Kamikazes and I was scanning sky.

I found a shiny, silvery disc at a very high altitude directly over us. I reported it to the O.D. and others viewed it, too.

But as time passed nothing happened and only I watched it the rest of the day. It remained directly over us all day. At the time a Japanese weapon was a primary concern.

((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of sighting is approximate. PD))

End Report

US Infantry, Amour, and Marines began landing on Okinawa on March 26, 1945. The fighting lasted almost 3 months.

Finally, from the son of a Japanese participant of World War Two. His dad was a member of the Japanese Imperial Army. The following was posted to MUFON, I think it was in March 2007:

"My father seen creatures observing combat during a battle in the Pacific during WWII.
I do not know which battle, he served in the Pacific in 1942 & 1945.
He told of seeing ufo's before and after the the war."

A salute to all veterans of The Pacific Theater of World War Two. My grandfather was a SeeBee Commander, my dad's oldest brother was a medical doctor, in the Pacific Theater during the war. My dad's older brother had the best job, as a pilot. He ferried big-wigs, including entertainers, such as Betty Grable, all over the Pacific during World War Two.
My father was a Combat Engineer in the European Threater.
